Hello,
I have been threatening to make my presence known on the other side of
the pond for some time. The only thing that has stopped me is that I
haven't bothered to get a passport. That is changing. I am attempting
to figure out how I will do PGDay.IT/PGCon.EU and WEST (they happen
within a week of each other).
So my question is, if I get a Visa to Italy? Am I stuck in Italy until
I come back to the US? Or can I take a road trip up to France? If I am
allowed to cross borders, is Italy the place to try and get a Visa?
Should I try Britian instead or Germany instead?
Sincerely,
Joshua D. Drake

Do that immediately, like *today* if you haven't already.

At this point, you don't, as a US citizen, need a visa to enter any
country in the EU.
Cheers,
David.

Well it will have to wait until next week as I am on my way to
Bellingham.

Just to be clear are you saying I *only* need my passport?

within Europe borders are open. you can travel from Italy to Germany
or France and every other country in Europe. I am quite sure you do
not need a visa if you are US-citizen.
Best wishes, & welcome to Europe,

No visa needed for the EU for americans, AFAIK. And even if it is, you
need a Schengen Visa which will allow you access throughout all the
Schengen countries (which is pretty much all the EU countries)

I am pretty confident you do not need anything if it is for tourism. You
are allowed to travel around Europe for up to 90 days. I might be wrong,
but I am pretty sure it is all based on a mutual agreement between EU
and the US (I do not need a visa to visit the States for instance).

Yes. US Citizens doesn't need any visa for tripping around Europe.
Neither Europeans need a visa to trip in the US.
In both sides, you'll have a 3 months limit for your trip. And you can
do that twice a year as a maximum without visa.
If you need to stay more that 3 months twice a year in any of the Eu
countries, you'll need at least a Schengen Visa, or any national visa
from any Eu country.
See you @ ottawa :)

Please substitute "EU (and a few other countries)" for "Europe" in the above.
If you plan to visit any non-EU countries, you should check their rules
separately.

it should be no problem for you at all.
all you need is to fill out a landing card. but, no worries - the EU
landing card is not half as stupid as the US one :).
last time i went to the state i signed this landing to clarify that my 2
year old son was not a member of the NAZI army and that he has no
training in handling nuclear weapons :).
so, no worries - we have some freedom left over here ...
