Hey all, I saw this dubious headline on databasejournal.com

"BakBone Software Announces Availability of the First PostgreSQL
Database Backup and Recovery Solution"

Seems they're getting a bit of press

http://www.databasejournal.com/news/article.php/2220741http://www.byteandswitch.com/document.asp?doc_id=35267http://www.businesswire.com/cgi-bin/cb_headline.cgi?&story_file=bw.061103/231625494&directory=/google&header_file=header.htm&footer_file=

anyone have time to check it out and report what it's all about?

Looking over the manual
http://www.bakbone.com/docs/APM_for_PostgreSQL_Users_Guide.pdf
it would appear to simply be a gui front end for pg_dump / pg_dumpall.

Either spend $1079 or learn how to write a crontab file...

I'd rather write a check to the core developers than give my money to
folks who are writing a pretty front end to the worlds simplest command
line tool.

<grin> Actually, they wrote the utility for people who are already using
their enterprise back-up tool for network-wide backup; $1079 is for the
convenience of being able to admin all types of backup from a single console.

Which I'd be happy to recommend, if any of my clients had that kind of money
...

The main advantage of Oracle lies in its name. People think they are smart
because they follow its advices. Same goes for the money: the more you spend,
the more intelligent you are ...

Take these $1079 as a sign that PostgreSQL is gaining confidence (joke).

Cheers,
