We do not have any planned, but I am in favour of having one. I just got
back from the SE LinuxFest, and got to see some of the features of
PostgreSQL 9.1 and 9.2.

Hey, I was at SELF, too! :) (I was the one with the sousaphone. ;) )

Am also in favor of meetings, but it's difficult for me to organize
any from Athens. Managing the list is fairly straightforward, though.

I remember you. You do know how to accessorize to make a lasting
impression. I feel like we should be able to come up with a meeting space
in Buckhead/Midtown. I can ask at the Fulton Co Library branch at around
15th and Peachtree St.. Would anybody have a time/day of the week/month
preference? I work a couple of blocks from the Art Center and I can get to
stuff in that area easily during the day. My evenings tend to be full of
other stuff right now Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri are the best days for me to do
this, and I would be willing to look for a location.

Questions we would need answered from possible attendees to make these
meetings fun and effective:
1. What availability have you?

2. What would you like to learn/ do?

3. What can you present on?

4. Would you rather have a school or library setting or a bar or restaurant
setting?

5. What other questions do you think need asking?

Wolf

Super delayed response to this thread, but if nothing turns up in the
interim, we'll have a new dedicated event space ready here at MailChimp by
year end. Our office is in West Midtown, near GT's campus so not certain
if that is what people were thinking.

We use PostgreSQL internally in some interesting ways on large datasets
(dozens of TB) so would have some attendees and talks out of that I am
certain. Likely could sponsor to cover food, etc as well.

Just throwing it out there. Might be worth setting up a meetup.com group
to start building a list of people/emails. I'll be out of commission
through the fall but could help out directly with organizing after that.

That sounds good; have not used meetup.com yet, but I hear a lot of
other PostgreSQL user groups are having success with it.

It also may be possible to get some financial support from PgUS, once
things get up and rolling again.

I like mailchimp's offices as a meeting location as well.
Meetup.com has been a cool venue for hosting groups in my experience. It is
not free to set up a group, but if PostgreSQL can offee some support, it
should be doable.
