For what it's worth, Jie and I hope to have finished the bitmap streaming
this weekend which is the only outstanding issue with the code as it
currently stands. I now realise (nothing like hindsight) that we should
have posted a patch before we looked at streaming bitmaps because they've
proved more fiddly to implement than I thought :-(. At that point, we'd
more or less addressed the issues I'd raised when I posted at feature
freeze time.
