JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:

Database Administrator - Postgres / Oracle is accountable for the PostgreSQL databases and is a secondary resource for Oracle, MS SQL and MySQL databases. Responsibilities on these systems include provisioning, operations and support, maintenance and research and development to ensure continual innovation.

Job Responsibilities:

* Maintain Production, Development, and Test databases
* Ensure availability of the databases in accordance with our service level agreements
* Ensure recoverability of the databases in accordance with our set guidelines
* Repair problems in the databases quickly and correctly
* Monitor the databases' performance and tune them as necessary verifying the integrity and availability of all resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
* Provide Database Analysis & Design service to developers and other support groups
* Experience supporting a mission-critical database environment
* Offer assistance to developers in designing and tuning database queries and procedures
* PostgreSQL experience required; Oracle experience is strongly preferred.
* Solid knowledge of SQL, and ability to transfer this knowledge to other team members
* Experience with UNIX / Linux administration and shell scripting is strongly preferred
* Familiarity with additional RDBMSs (other than PostgreSQL) is an asset, but not mandatory
* Research and recommend innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
* Regularly update and maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures and documentation.
* Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
* Make rapid, well-informed, independent judgments in support of NAB's business-critical systems
* Participate in on-call escalation rotations for 24x7x365 support; evening, overnight, and weekend, holiday and on-call work may be required.
* Other tasks as assigned by management
Skillset / Experience:
* Bachelor's degree in a technical or engineering field
* Minimum of 5 - 7 years in medium-size Enterprise environment (~12 database servers, physical and virtual)
* Experience with e-commerce and e-hosting environments
* Experience in problem resolution with IT systems and individuals
* Ability to interact with clients in a clear, concise, professional manner
* Familiarity with a majority of the following:
* PostgreSQL Database Platform
* Oracle 11g
* Pentaho (Preferred)
* PHP Development Language (Preferred)
* SAN storage infrastructure (IBM XiV / v3700 a plus)
* Solid understanding and working knowledge of complete systems development and deployment lifecycle and of all facets of systems administration in a large scale IT operations unit
