PostgreSQL DBA for Prodea Systems

 

Prodea Systems, based in Plano, Texas, is at the forefront of next-generation digital home and multimedia management technologies.  We have developed a comprehensive solution (ROS™) that solves the consumer challenges that currently exist in the digital home.  Our integrated and cost-effective offering is comprised of a multi-service in-home appliance and a complement of managed services, delivered through a lightweight core infrastructure.  A Prodea Systems powered digital home will change and dramatically improve the way people use and adopt digital home devices (consumer electronics) and internet based services (even for the non-technical consumer). 

 

Responsibilities:

 

The candidate should be highly motivated and adapt to working in a dynamic and extremely fast paced environment. You will be involved in creating and managing a high availability PostgreSQL database farm in a Linux environment. Primary responsibilities include:

·         Designing, Implementing and Managing 24/7/365 high availability PostgreSQL databases

·         Define and Implement Maintenance procedures including Disaster Recovery, DB maintenance (VACUUM scheduling), and archiving

·         Responsible for developing structure to ensure data integrity

·         Work close with the development team to design optimal database schemas with particular emphasis on database partitioning strategies and growth planning

·         Work close with the NOC to maintain visibility into the complex system

·         Work close with System Operations to design optimal hardware for growth

·         Proactively research and avert database related issues

 

Qualifications:

·         Bachelor's Degree, 2 years PostgreSQL DBA Administration experience

·         3+ years in a 24/7/365 environment

·         Strong experience required with PostgreSQL / Linux combination

·         Strong UNIX Administration Skills - Linux experience required

·         PostgreSQL Performance Tuning Experience

·         Experience with database layouts on high performance disk subsystems required

·         Experience performing a full restore to a PostgreSQL database from tape.

·         Excellent SQL and PL/SQL skills

·         Networking Experience - TCP/IP, Database Connectivity (JDBC, ODBC) in Java to Database Connectivity environments required

·         Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

·         Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills conducive to team development

·         Ability to perform needs assessment and handle technical objections

·         Scripting experience (SHELL, Perl/Python/Ruby, etc.)
