PostgreSQL / Bizgres MPP DBA consultant needed for Bay Area contract(s)



Hi,
 
Greenplum, Inc. is looking for a qualified PostgreSQL DBA Consultant to
assist Customer(s) in the Bay Area with PostgreSQL and Bizgres MPP
deployments.  Please note that Greenplum is willing to provide free
training on Bizgres MPP, the massively-parallel variant of PostgreSQL
(http://www.greenplum.com/products/bizgresMpp.php).
 
Skills Required:

1.	Consultancy and customer skills.  (Professionalism, courtesy,
sustained positive attitude and willingness to work with new
technologies and multiple vendors.).
2.	Must work on site, at least standard business hours.
3.	2+ years PostgreSQL experience / 4+ years database
administration and design experience
4.	Linux (RedHat, CentOS) and Windows Server
5.	Experience in deploying databases successfully in
enterprise-level Operations 
6.	Willingness to quickly come up to speed with assist with
commercial applications connecting to PostgreSQL and/or Bizgres MPP.
7.	College or equivalent degree.

Skills Desired:

1.	Data Warehouse modeling and deployment.
2.	ODBC connectivity
3.	SQL Server database migration familiarity.

Timing: prefer immediate start.  Will require full-time commitment
initially, and may reduce to part-time once environment is migrated and
stabilized.

Data Warehouse Data Base Administrator


The Data Warehouse Data Base Administrator is responsible for
implementing all data bases in the data warehouse based on the data
model, periodically running ETL jobs or extract jobs, and providing
support to developers and management using the data.


Responsibilities


The Data Warehouse DBA is responsible for the physical data storage
environments for the staging, integration, atomic, and departmental
(data marts) levels of the data warehouse, as well as the Meta data
repositories. Responsibilities include: 

*        Devise and implement a backup and recovery strategy consistent
with current data warehouse architecture.

*        Implement data bases optimized for decision support access.

*        Periodically load the data into the data warehouse via ETL jobs

*        Develop capacity plans, Monitor usage patterns 

*        Optimize data bases based on usage patterns 

*        Work closely with the Data Warehouse Data Architect and the
Data Acquisition Developer to ensure optimal data base and data
extraction/loading process design for each implementation 

*        Implement the data bases required to support meta data 

*        Ensure physical naming conventions of the data base correlate
with the data warehouse data model 

*        Document the data movement and data loading processes 


Deliverables


In addition, specific deliverables that the Data Warehouse Data Base
Administrator is responsible for include: 

*        Physical data base consistent with data warehouse data model 

*        Physical data base consistent with data warehouse design tenets


*        Capacity estimates and plan 

*        Physical data base for meta data 

Responsibilities associated with loading the data into the data
warehouse physical tables include: 

*        Install data base and related tools into production 

*        Install ETL application and related tools into production

*        Develop and implement processes to address data integrity
issues and data loading problems 

*        Develop standard processes to modify and load data not included
in previous loads because of data integrity issues 

*        Document the data base load and update processes
