Recently, I upgraded my OS from RH8 to Fedora.
This implicitly upgraded my database to PG7.4.6 from PG7.2.X.
Due to this I am unable to use the existing database,
since starting postmaster with the same Data gives an
initializing data dictionary error (Incompatible
between versions).
What options do I have in order to save my data?

Wrong list.
You probably have to downgrade to 7.2 to get your data back.
