There's many things which contribute significantly to the difference
in numbers, such as -hackers and -patches which are non-user-related
and have almost no equivalent in the MySQL community.  Similarly,

Also, as I'm sure we'd hear if this were Slashdotted, people may think that "this is just proof that PostgreSQL is harder to use than MySQL..." I.E. MySQL is so easy that there are less people asking questions.
